Author Guidelines

About the Journal
The Journal of Interdisciplinary Human Studies (JIHS) is a peer-reviewed, open-access academic journal dedicated to the critical and comparative study of human sciences, including philosophy, theology, cultural studies, education, and social thought. The journal aims to foster an integrative understanding of human knowledge by bridging disciplinary boundaries and promoting innovative scholarly dialogue.

Focus and Scope
JIHS publishes original research articles, theoretical analyses, book reviews, and case studies exploring the intersections of humanities and social sciences. Submissions addressing ethical, spiritual, and intellectual dimensions of human experience are particularly encouraged.

Open Access Policy
All articles are published under an open-access license, allowing readers to read, download, copy, distribute, print, and link to the full texts free of charge. Authors retain copyright while granting the journal the right of first publication.

Peer Review Process
All submissions undergo a double-blind peer review by at least two independent reviewers to ensure academic integrity, originality, and quality.

Publication Frequency
The journal is published biannually (June and December).

Archiving and Indexing
JIHS uses the LOCKSS and CLOCKSS systems to ensure long-term digital preservation and accessibility of all published content.

The journal is supported by independent academic scholars and research institutions committed to promoting humanistic and interdisciplinary studies.

2️⃣ Peer Review Process (OJS-friendly)

Step-by-Step Peer Review Process

  1. Submission of Paper
    Authors submit their manuscripts through the OJS online submission system.

  2. Editorial Office Assessment
    The Editorial Office verifies that the manuscript adheres to the Author Guidelines. No quality assessment is done at this stage.

  3. Appraisal by Editor-in-Chief
    The Editor-in-Chief evaluates scope, originality, and relevance. Manuscripts outside the journal’s focus may be rejected at this stage.

  4. Assignment to Handling Editor
    An Associate or Handling Editor is assigned to manage the peer review process.

  5. Invitation to Reviewers
    Appropriate reviewers are invited. Usually, at least two reviewers are assigned.

  6. Response to Invitations
    Reviewers accept or decline based on expertise, availability, and conflicts of interest.

  7. Conducting the Review
    Reviewers assess the manuscript, providing a detailed, constructive review with recommendations (accept, revise, or reject).

  8. Evaluation of Reviews
    The handling editor considers all returned reviews and may invite additional reviewers if opinions differ.

  9. Decision Communication
    The editor communicates the decision to the author with reviewer comments. Reviewer identities remain anonymous in double-blind review.

  10. Next Steps
    Accepted manuscripts proceed to production. Revisions are handled as per reviewer recommendations.

Author Agreement:

  • Authors retain copyright and grant the journal the right of first publication.

  • Authors may enter separate agreements for non-exclusive distribution (e.g., posting to institutional repositories).

  • Authors are encouraged to share their work online prior to and during submission to enhance visibility and citations.

  • Article Submission Fee: 0 USD

  • Article Publication Fee: 20 USD (if accepted)

  • Fee waivers are available for authors unable to pay, ensuring accessibility and high-quality publication.

Submission Preparation Checklist

Before submitting, authors are asked to confirm that their manuscript meets the following requirements:

  1. Originality: The submission is original, has not been published elsewhere, and is not under consideration by another journal.

  2. Scope: The manuscript aligns with the focus and scope of the Journal of Interdisciplinary Human Studies (JIHS).

  3. Manuscript Formatting:

    • The text is double-spaced, uses a readable font (e.g., Times New Roman 12 pt), and includes page numbers.

    • Manuscript sections are clearly labeled: Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Methodology, Results/Discussion, Conclusion, References.

    • References follow APA 7th edition style.

  4. Abstract and Keywords: A structured abstract (150–250 words) is provided, along with 3–7 keywords.

  5. Figures and Tables: All figures and tables are embedded in the manuscript and appropriately labeled. Permissions for copyrighted materials are obtained if needed.

  6. Author Details: Names, affiliations, and contact emails for all authors are included. The corresponding author is clearly indicated.

  7. Ethics and Permissions: Any research involving human participants or animals includes ethical approval details and informed consent where applicable.

  8. Plagiarism Check: Manuscript has been reviewed to ensure originality. Any similarity to previously published work is properly cited.

  9. File Formats: Manuscript files are in DOC, DOCX, or PDF format. Supplementary files (if any) are clearly labeled.

  10. Open Access and Copyright: Authors have read and agree to the journal’s open-access and copyright policies (Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0).

Publication Policy for Conference Proceedings

This section is dedicated to publishing papers submitted to the International Conference Proceedings. All materials included here are not externally peer-reviewed and are accepted directly by the conference editorial team. Submissions are evaluated only for compliance with the submission guidelines, relevance to the conference themes, and adherence to ethical publishing standards. No formal external peer-review process is conducted for this section.
