TThis article examines several distinctive views of Anwar Shah Kashmiri regarding hadith terminology, as well as the arguments and evidence he presented in his commentaries on Sahih al-Bukhari and Sunan al-Tirmidhi. In addition, the article discusses his noteworthy views on mutawatir reports and their various types. Particular attention is paid to the fact that the scholar’s understanding of mutawatir reports differs from the views of hadith scholars (muhaddithun). Specifically, the article explains the definition given by hadith scholars, according to which a mutawatir report is “a report transmitted by a large number of people from one another in such a manner that it is impossible for them to have agreed upon a lie.” It also discusses the classification of mutawatir reports into verbal (lafzi) and meaning-based (ma‘nawi) forms, and explains that, in Anwar Shah Kashmiri’s view, this classification contains several additional qualifications and considerations.
